Ok where were sirens this afternoon when all bad weather came thru and caused damage... They worked the other day when it was clear during a test..I'm about 1/4 mile from one..Maybe folks in charge of pushing button were at Mardi Gras parade...

I agree, I am 4/10 of a mile from one and never heard it.  My mom is about the same distance but on the other side and did not hear it either.  She had some damage to some things on her porch.  My patio table glass almost came out of the table.....thank goodness it didnt.....that was some rough stuff.

Talked to a friend out your way Altus.  He was taking a shower, then the lights went out, then the shower stopped running.  He thought it was the end!!

He must be on a well with a pump...   My water is gravity fed.  Gravity works without electricity.  One of the earliest forms of stored energy...   a tank (or dam) full of water.

I had to go out to the end of Jackson Landing, to help a friend.  While I was there, the power went out, when I left at 3pm, still in the dark.  I drove through town, rivers were everywhere, trees knocked down over the road in one place.  When I pulled into my driveway/river, I sighed in relief.  Is this storm over?

They may only go off when a tornado warning has been issued by National Weather Service for Picayune area.  Straight line winds may not warrant a toot.

I don't know exactly, but I would guess it is around 250,000 gallons. It is the new well on 43 N.

Speaking of the sirens, are they only used for tornadoes or are they potentially used for other warnings?  Every time I hear them testing I always wonder how we're supposed to know if its a test or an actual emergency.

They always call and email me when a test is going to happen.

I envisioned a big water tank on top your house feeding your water needs..

That water still has to be pushed to the top of those elevated tanks by some method of pumping (you choose which one).  It just does not magically appear.  There is still the remote possibility we could still run out of water under extreme situations.

But yes the ole boy was on well and pump system!

I know after Katrina we still had water(no electricity)..I suppose city ran generators to keep water coming. But I still went and got FEMA water and ice and set up my command center under magnolia tree in front yard watching my neighbors with big huge suvs waste their gas..I putted down to Claiborne Hill on my old M/C and loaded up..Saved gas in cars...Ran generator at night to keep 1 a/c going...Heat in daytime was bad but with that one 10,000 btu a/c it keep one room nice and cool to sleep in..
