Joyce and Darnell
« on: October 22, 2011, 11:05:35 AM »
J&D was out off Sycamore, then moved to Slidell.  Now, due to the updated alcohol laws, they are back.  Now called JD Bistro, in the same building with Paul's pastry.  Beautiful location.   We did not eat but picked up a menu.  Had live music on a Friday night.

Their food was great in the off Sycamore location.  Never did try them in Slidell.

Welcome Home Joyce and Darnell.

The grass is always greener over the septic tank.

Ate there recently and had a delicious pasta and crabmeat dish served with a 6 oz. filet. They will soon be open for Sunday brunch too.

Was there for lunch this week and the sandwiches were delicious, BUT why must we be treated like we are at a fast food place. No one else in the place but had to go to the counter and order and pay. get your own plastic utensils and drinks served in a stryofoam cup. The sandwiches and tea all ran around $10 each not fast food prices.

At the new JD Bistro? They don't have counter service --it's all table service with real cloth napkins, candles, etc. for dinner. I didn't even see a counter in the place.

I stated that I was there for lunch. the counter that you must go up to order is in front of the open kitchen door. There was white paper on the tables, plastic utensils, paper napkins, and styrofoam cups. you must get your own tea refills as well as napkins and utensils. Maybe they change the ambiance for dinner.

J & D Bistro-
Had lunch once, dinner once.
Lunch is 'order at the counter' at the back of the dining room.  Took a few minutes to figure that out.  Now there's a sign as you come in to order at the counter
I had the special: So Carolina BBQ.  Wifie had shrimp dish.  Both were great.

Dinner was 'up scale'ish as previously at Joyce & Darnell.   I had Ribeye. Wifie had Filet. 1st class eats reasonably priced.  Kie does both on the outside grill over hickory.
Darnell visited tables at dinner.  Said this is their 1st stab at a lunch menu.
One of my neighbors visited...  said that his daughter's shrimp dish was a little under cooked.  He'll go back.
Most new start up restaurants, even with experienced staff, usually have adjustments to make.
I remember Galatoire's opened it's Bistro in Baton Rouge.  The 1st month reviews were mediocre.

I trust that J & D's will work out any issues.  They are 1st class people and historically 1st class food.

I ate lunch last week at JD's and it was wonderful.  I had a spicy sausage sandwich..was awsome.  The fries are to die for.  Hubby, had old standby, catfish platter.  The fish was cooked to prefection and it was laying over, a wonderful pile of their chips (french fries)  I will go back, just for the experience.  Good food..hard to find.

I went by, yesterday to get a menu.  They still do not have their license to serve drinks.  They are being challenged by Sycamore Baptist Church.  They are the only restaurant that has applied for that license, to be challenged.  I wonder why they got challenged.
