From Staff Reports/MS The Picayune Item
PICAYUNE — Council member Larry Breland recently completed the Mississippi Municipal League’s Certified Municipal Official’s Basic program.
According to a release from the city of Picayune, Breland underwent training that will help him understand and improve his management of local city issues.
Breland earned his Basic CMO certification by attending 60 hours of voluntary MML training, which took two years to complete, the release states. Breland was required to complete four core courses to earn the certification. The courses included Municipal Organization, taught by Dr. Marty Wiseman of the John C. Stennis institute of Government; Municipal Law, taught by Leigh Janous with the Attorney General’s office, Tom Hood of the Mississippi Ethics Commission and Ron Robinson of the State Auditor’s office; Municipal Finance, taught by Demery Grubbs of Government Consultants, and Municipal Land, taught by Hernando City Planner Bob Barber.
“The CMO program provides the participants training to help them become more effective leaders of their respective cities and the Mississippi Municipal League is proud to offer this opportunity,” said MML Executive Director George Lewis in the release.
The release states the MML was established in 1931 and represents 288 municipalities within Mississippi. Its mission is to help cities and towns excel.
What I want to know is, has anyone else, who are our elected officials taken this class?
